SCANDINAVIAN customers that run CANalyzer/CANoe version 4.1 SP1 or OLDER on LAPcanI/II: CLICK HERE FOR SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS AND DO NOT |
PLEASE NOTE: CANalyzer/CANoe 4.1 SP2 is required
with the following drivers:
1. Download the proper drivers from the download section of web site
(click Download to the left) or use these shortcut links:
consult support@kvaser.com
to receive old version of driver.
These drivers will peacefully co-exist with an installation of
Vector CANcardX. But with these drivers you will
not be able to run CANalyzer/CANoe if it is a version older than 4.1,
Service Pack 2 on LAPcanI/II. If you have a older CANalyzer please
click the link in the box above for other drivers or visit
www.vecscan.com or www.vector-informatik.de
and update your CANalyzer to the very latest version.
2.
Remove all your
plug and play KVASER hardware and execute the
downloaded file and the following window will pop-up:

3. Just wait until the
initialization of installation is finished and a request to read some
information pops up, looks like this:

4. Click Yes and read the instructions in the text file and then close notepad.

If you have earlier installed KVASER CAN drivers in your computer the following window will pop-up (If this windows doesn't pop-up continue to point 5 of this document) :

Simply
choose YES if you don't have CAN drivers from Vector
Informatik GmbH (like CANcardX) in your computer, then you choose
"No".

and then...

click yes..

AND THE RE-BOOT YOUR COMPUTER. AT THIS POINT NOTHING WILL BE INSTALLED and therefore you have to run this installation program once again after re-boot.
5. In the next dialog just press "Next"...

6. The
next window is more important, please read it carefully. In this
installation guide an installation of a clean computer is exemplified (we
are not running CANalyzer/CANoe on LAPcan cards (=Scandinavian customers
that bought CANalyzer from us earlier) - no plans to do it either - and
if you do, please click here). If you have CANcardX you can safely
continue, like the dialog window says in the end.

7. Select a destination where you like to store your KVASER drivers.

8.
In this example it is a clean computer, therefore nothing has to be
deleted and therefore we choose "No, don't try to remove old
drivers".
However, if you earlier have installed older versions of KVASER CANlib
drivers and want them to be replaced with new ones (you have problems with
the installation) it is a good idea to clean up everything by clicking
"Yes, try to remove old drivers". If you do this, the
installation program will UN-INSTALL ALL YOUR DRIVERS and ASK YOU
TO REBOOT your computer and NOTHING WILL BE INSTALLED and
therefore you have to run this installation program again after
rebooting and, of course, select "No, don't try to remove old
drivers" things second time to proceed with the installation, but
preferably try "No, don't try to remove old drivers" to
begin with - it usually works! If you choose to uninstall driver this will
not affect the CANcardX installation.

9. In the next dialog window just click "Next" to proceed with the installation.

10. The installing will start and it looks like this, do not click "Cancel".

11. When the has finished correctly it looks like this. Windows will ask you to reboot and you should do that!

12. When computer has rebooted you can connect any of our HW and Windows will discover this and automatically install them. Note:
13. After reboot go to the Control
Panel and double-click "CAN Hardware (KVASER)".
PLEASE CHECK this carefully in the Control
Panel window: If you are running LAPcan (and only LAPcan
- NOT CANcardX from Vector in this computer)
and you have 2 (two) "CAN Hardware" - icons in the
Control Panel (one of the without the "blue stripe" most likely)
something went wrong during installation. Click
here for instructions how to make the extra icon disappear.
(CANcardX and LAPcan on the same computer
must have two icons and that is therefore perfectly OK!!!, click
here for more info how this works if you are interested!!!).
When you are finished with the instructions please
restart from the very beginning with the instructions on this page
and hopefully things will be alright the next time you try!
If you only have one single "CAN Hardware" icon, like the
snapshot below, please continue...

14. This is what the CAN hardware should look like (If you have a PCIcan it will also be visible here)

15. Plug in the KVASER plug and play hardware (for example a LAPcan, USBcan or Memorator) and plug and play will take actions (This is exemplified with the Memorator in this document). Windows will not automatically install the drivers for you.

Sometimes the "Found you hardware wizard" will pop-up when devices are plugged in. If it does, just click Next - Next - OK with the default settings and it should work just fine, this behavior seems to be computer dependent or similar.

...and then this Window where Windows should find the driver, click "Next"...

... and finally ...

where you click "Finish".
NOW YOU SHOULD RESTART YOUR COMPUTER!
16. Restart the CAN driver Configuration program and now your new KVASER hardware should be visible (The Memorator is a bit special here, it presents itself as a USBcan II (by technically reasons which is perfectly normal, all other HW presents themselves with the accurate name). "Blue-mark" the new installed hardware and click "Hardware info".

If this is not OK click here for trouble-shooting 1.
Still
problems? Click here for more trouble shooting.
17. A window like this should pop up. If it does (and you don't receive a "Can not load CAN driver" message) the installation of this device was OK and now you can start to use your KVASER hardware, we hope you like it!

18. If you have problems with this installation try to re-install the drivers but in point 8 of this document - choose to uninstall the old drivers - and reinstall everything once more. If this doesn't help try to manually update the drivers via the Device Manager from the folder where you unpacked these drivers (see point 7 of this document) and then click here for more instructions.
If problem still persist don't hesitate
to contact support@kvaser.com with
a detailed problem description.
