WinTransfer |
This guide describes how to upgrade the firmware on a Kvaser Memorator
over the CAN bus with the "WinTransfer" program.
The information given here is also valid for other upgrades, since the
steps are basically the same.
Using "WinTransfer" for upgrading the firmware of a KVASER
device should
only be done if you have unsuccessfully tried to upgrade the firmware using the
normal procedure, described in "How to upgrade the firmware"
note.
1. Wintransfer. Ask our Support
Team to send you the "WinTransfer" program. Unzip the
*.zip file into a empty folder, for example:
...\KVASER\Wintransfer\
In addition
to the Wintransfer program, you must have a installed and working Kvaser device on your
PC.
2. Download the firmware. Download the latest firmware version
to an empty folder, for example:
...\Kvaser\Wintransfer\
You will find all firmware in our Software Download Area [Support->Downloads]
. Unzip the *.zip file and extract the files into the same
folder.
3. Close all applications. Close all applications and programs before you
move on to the next step.
4. Set-up the hardware. Connect the hardware as directed by the figure shown below. If
you have any doubts concerning pin configuration of the CAN bus, termination,
read the "Pin configuration of Kvaser hardware" note. If you have any questions, contact our Support
Team.
5. Run and set-up Wintransfer.
Open the Command Prompt. Go to the folder where you have your
"Wintransfer" program. And type: wintransfer.exe. You should see a window like the one shown below.
Click the "Open" button and browse to
memorator_p030a_nodebug.img. Select CAN channel on the Kvaser USBcan II.
If you are using other Kvaser hardware, choose the approriate *.img file and CAN
channel. The Bitrate, File type and Binary board settings remain the same for
all cases.
7. Click on the "Break" button. Make sure that the
device that you are about to upgrade, i.e. the Kvaser Memorator in
this guide, are powered down before you click on the on the Break
button. If you are about to upgrade a Kvaser PCIcan II
board,
shut-down the computer. When this is done click the "Break" button in the WinTransfer application. A timeout will
start ticking, as shown at the left bottom in the window below.
8. Device Break OK. Before this timer has elapsed power up the Kvaser Memorator, i.e.
plug in the USB connector into a USB port. If it is a PCIcan II board,
start the computer. When that is done Wintransfer reports "Device Break
OK", as shown at the left bottom in the window below.
9. Download the new firmware version over the CAN bus. Click on the "Download"
button and the transfer will start.
10. Transfer finished. When the transfer is finished, Wintransfer reports "Download
successful", as shown at the left bottom in the window below. Close the
Wintransfer program and eject and plug in the Kvaser Memorator. If it is a
PCIcan II board, restart the computer. You are now
ready to go. If you get any problems, contact our Support
Team.
