Problem

My LAPcan behaves strange (card locks after a couple of hours, problems to boot and more...) - what can I do?

Solution

This example is taken from Windows XP (this is where most of these problems are). But the way to fix this is almost similar in Win98 and Win2000 so it should not be a significant problem to fix on another platform with help from this document.

1. Open the Control Panel ("Start" button and the "Control Panel") and then double-click the "Performance and Mainstenance" icon (This is called "System" in Win98/Win2000 and then jump to point 3 in this document).

2. Double-click the "System" icon.

3. Click the "Hardware" folder.

4. Click the "Device Manager" button.

5. Expand the "CAN Hardware" icon (click the "+" sign) and then click "Kvaser LAPcan/LAPcan II" with the RIGHT mouse button and then you click "Properties" in the meny that pops up.

6. Click the "Resources" folder.

7. Unmark the "Use Automatic Setting" button.

8. Mark the "I/O Range" text.

9. Change the "Up and down" arrows. MAKE SURE that there are no visible conflicts (the textbox should say "No devices are conflicting"). Please note: Even if it says "No devices are conflicting" and it doesn't work, please try an other anyway (can be unvisible conflicts). Click "OK" when done.

10. Just click "Yes". And then "Reboot" your PC.

11. If it still doesn't work, try a couple of different I/O addresses anyway (reboot in between).  Contact "support@kvaser.com" if problem persists - maybe you have problems with the LAPcan Hardware?.
