Win98/2000/XP/ME
KVASER hardware installation instructions
(If you are going to re-install a broken installation or
upgrade your driver routines it's always best to
uninstall the old/broken drivers and reinstall the new ones (click
here)).
Important note regarding KVASER Memorator installation
If you want to install drivers for KVASER Memorator and
already have other KVASER hardware (like LAPcan, USBcan or PCIcan)
installed you first have to uninstall these devices and then
re-install them with the drivers shipped on CD with the Memorator (or
called 1_5.zip). (The reason for this is becuase this is the first step to
the "non-conflicting drivers" which means that Vector products
can coexist with KVASER products without any problems, these drivers are
still a bit "beta" but we think they work just fine!). You find
instructions how to uninstall KVASER devices by clicking
here (do not download the drivers from our homepage, use the one sent
with the Memorator becuase the Memorator drivers are yet not available on
www.kvaser.com). In the near future this will be fixed to be done
automaticly and until then some work has to be done by hand.
1. Uninstall drivers for LAPcan (run cleanup.exe and more, click
here).
2. Uninstall drivers for USBcanII ( -- "" -- ).
3. Uninstall the drivers for other Kvaser HW if you got ( --
"" -- ).
4. Re-install drivers for LAPcan (from the driverpackage sent
with Memorator, not the one available for download on the homepage).
5. Re-install drivers for Memorator ( -- "" -- )
6. Re-install the rest of the HW ( -- "" -- )
First time installation installation instructions:
1. Unpack the CANlib driver if that is not already done (click here).
2. Insert your LAPcan I/II or USBdecive into the PCMCIA slot on your PC.
If it is a PCIcan, shut off the compuer, insert the card at boot. In a few
seconds you should receive the following dialog window. (If you DO NOT
receive a dialog within 1 minute click
here). If you receive the "Found New Hardware Wizard" dialog
(see below) - just click the "Next" button.
3. In the following window (Install Hardware Device Drivers) just mark the "Search for suitable driver for my decive
(recommended)", then click the "Next"-button. (If
you have, earlier, installed drivers for the HW (or even CANcardx
from Vector) you should
click "Display a list of the known drivers for this device so that I
can choose a specific driver" otherwise Windows will take control and
use other drivers... If you still have problems to make your LAPcan run
then try the instructions "Upgrade a
installation of driver (Win98/2000/ME/XP" by clicking
here", that sometimes fixes more or less odd problems).
(Note: In this example a LAPcan card is being
installed, therefore it says "KVASER LapCAN").
4. In the following window (Install Hardware Device Drivers) just mark just "Specify a location" and then
click the "Next"-button.
5. In the following window you are supposed to "Browse" to the directory where you earlier
unpacked your
"CANlib" (see point 1 of this document) and then you click the "OK"-button.
6. The following dialog window is easy, just click "Next"-window
and wait for the installation to proceed.
7. In the last dialog just click the "Finish" button
and then verify that your KVASER hardware is working properly
(If something went wrong don't hesitate to contact us (support@kvaser.se)
with a problem report (as detailed as possible)).
