KVASER hardware installation instructions

If you are going to upgrade your KVASER driver please uninstall your old one before, click here for instructions.

First time installation installation instructions:

1. Download prefered driver:

for downloading driver for CANalyzer/CANoe 4.1 or later, CANking, CANlib or other tools that officially supports KVASER hardware.

Click here for downloading driver for CANalyzer/CANoe 4.0 or older.

2. Execute the downloaded kvdrv_nt4.exe file and you shall see the following dialog window where you click the "Start installation" button.

3. In the following dialog window you shall select the installation directory, by default "D:\Program Files\KVASER\CANDriver", use this one if you are a novice user by clicking the "Next" button.

4. In the next dialog window you shall set the hardware that you are using,  mark "LAPcan/LAPcan II" and click "OK

5. In the following dialog you shall set if you want to use one or two LAPcan cards. The reason for this is that Windows NT4 is unable to have two devices with the exact same ID at the same time, because of this little detail you have to mix a LAPcan I with a LAPcan II (since they don't have the same ID). Click "No" if you will only use one LAPcan I or one LAPcan II-card.

6. In the following dialog window you shall set a "Port address" and a "Interrupt". You shall set a "Port address" and a "Interrupt" that is not already being occupied by another hardware (a soundcard for example). (Click here if you are not sure how to determine this).

6. In the next dialog you have to answer the question again regarding the use of one or two LAPcans at the same time, click "No" again if you will only use one LAPcan I or LAPcan II card.

7. The installation program is now installing the files on your system. When the installation is done notepad will open. Read this file carefully then close you may close notepad again.

8. The following dialog will only confirm that your drivers are installed. Follow the instructions by inserting the LAPcan I/II into the PCMCIA slot and reboot your computer.

9. When you have rebooted your PC and inserted your PCMCIA card into the slot you can easily verify that everything is correct and that the hardware is working properly before you install CAN application software (click here for instructions).
