How do I change the bitrate of Kvaser WAVEcan?

This is described in the manual ("WAVEcan Starter Kit.pdf") but we repeat it here for convenience. Read the entire page before changing the bitrate.

To change the bit rate or the hardware filters, use the "wintransfer" tool and a valid parameter file. We supply three sample parameter files on the CD:

CAN125.txt

Text file containing parameters for setting the device's bus speed to 125 kbit/s (sampling point at 75%) accepting all messages.

CAN250.txt

Text file containing parameters for setting the device's bus speed to 250 kbit/s (sampling point at 75%) accepting all messages.

CAN500.txt

Text file containing parameters for setting the device's bus speed to 500 kbit/s (sampling point at 75%) accepting all messages.

You change the CAN parameters on one WAVEcan at a time. Proceed as follows:

1. Connect the WAVEcan with a terminated CAN bus (e.g. the ribbon cable) to the LAPcan.

2. Start wintransfer.

3. Press "Open" and choose a valid parameter file.

4. Set the Bitrate to the WAVEcan's current bit rate.

5. Set the CANchannel to the number of the LAPcan channel to which you have connected the WAVEcan.

6. Set "File type" to "parameter".

7. Press "Download".

The changes will not take place until the unit is reset. This can be done via the CAN bus by simply pressing the "Reset" button in wintransfer.

Important: By using an invalid parameter file the CAN controller may be incorrectly initiated. For resuming communication with the unit after an invalid file has been downloaded, break the power supply to the unit and press the "Break" button. After that you will have approximately 15 seconds to turn the power on to the radio. The tool will now establish communication at a default bit rate of 125k and then valid CAN parameter files can be downloaded at 125kbit/s. Using "Break" for ensuring a correct download will disable the normal functionality of the WAVEcan. After a valid CAN parameter file has been downloaded, simply press "Reset" to enable normal functionality of the WAVEcan at the new bit rate.
