Pin configuration of the CAN bus connectors

Use the User's Guide for your Kvaser hardware in order to find out the pinning of the 9 pin DSUB CAN bus connectors. We label the CAN channels on our products for easy identification of the supported physical layer.

There are three different physical layers for the CAN bus:

1. High-Speed CAN, abbreviation HS. CAN bus following the ISO 11898-2 physical layer. This is the normal type of CAN bus. It can operate from around 10 kbit/s up to 1 Mbit/s.

2. Low-Speed CAN, abbreviation LS. CAN bus following the physical layer defined by ISO 11898-3. A CAN bus of this type is fault-tolerant and can operate up to 125 kbit/s.

3. Single-Wire CAN, abbreviation SWC. CAN bus following the physical layer defined by standard SAE J2411. Chiefly used in slow automotive body buses, such as GM-LAN.
