Problem

How to update KVASER hardware via the CAN-bus using WinTransfer!

Answer

IMPORTANT NOTE: Using the "WinTransfer" for updating the firmware of a KVASER hardware should only be done if you have unsuccessfully tried to update the firmware using the PCI bus (for PCIcan II) and the USB port (for USBcan II / USBcan Rugged or Memorator). This is something you do IF NOTHING ELSE WORKS (preferably when KVASER's support team has advised you to do so.)
This update also requires that you have a working installation of an other KVASER hardware then the one you whish to update the firmware on.

1. Download the latest FIRMWARE package for your hardware and un-zip it to a directory on your hard disk.

2. Ask support@kvaser.com to send you the WinTransfer program.

3. Unzip the WinTransfer-package (to, for example C:\KVASER\Wintrasfer\) and type, at the command prompt:

    C:\KVASER\Wintransfer\wintransfer.exe -e

4. Connect the CAN hardware as described by figure below:

5. More details how to connect the CAN-bus between the devices.

6. Start up the Wintransfer program and set up as (File type, Binary area, and the address (0c0000)).

7. Browse to the IMG-file for the specific hardware.

8. POWER DOWN the CAN hardware (If it is a USB-device just unplug it, if it is a PCIcan II shut down the computer).

9. When this is done click "Break" in the WinTransfer application. A timeout will start ticking
BEFORE THIS TIMER has elapsed POWER UP the CAN hardware that you wish to update the firmware on
(Boot PC if it is a PCIcan II or plug in the USB device into a online USB port).

10. Click download and the transfer will start, it looks like this.

11. The download looks like this. It should take approximately 1 minute.

12. When the download is finished, please reboot the CAN hardware.
