An OEM supplier’s objective should be to seamlessly integrate with its customer’s products and services. Here at Kvaser, we understand the need for freedom of choice and flexibility that this entails.

Kvaser is flexible enough to support all your OEM needs, whether you choose to base your solution on an existing Kvaser hardware design, to ask us to customise one of our products to meet your particular requirements, or to commission us to develop CAN hardware for you from the ground up. Both our hardware and software can be re-branded and redesigned.

We can handle a project from end to end, or we can work with your in-house team to develop a complete hardware and software solution for you. For example, you may wish to capitalise on software skills you have in-house. In this case, your development team could use Kvaser’s software development kit, Kvaser CANlib SDK, to build upon Kvaser’s existing or custom hardware, or to develop a customised software application – for the ‘after sales’ market for instance.

How does Kvaser work with OEM clients?

Each OEM project is different and you’ll find that Kvaser offers a personal and tailor-made service. Projects are assigned to a dedicated project manager who will work closely with you to meet your specification, your time-to-market schedule and budget.

If you have commissioned a proprietary tool, we will make the modifications and then freeze the drivers and firmware. You will have full control of the product as it stands, in the knowledge that you have a reliable partner on hand should any future modifications or assistance be needed. Whether a product has been created for an OEM client or for Kvaser itself, we take pride in our ability to provide product supervision throughout its lifecycle.

Who else uses Kvaser?

Kvaser has proven expertise in optimising CAN for our customer’s applications and in meeting the needs of high volume/OEM clients.

Scania, is one example. A leading manufacturer of heavy trucks and buses, Scania turned to Kvaser when it needed after-market tools for its worldwide service centres.

The Scania name is synonymous with quality and technical innovation, and so when its vehicles made the shift to a CAN-bus based electrical system, it was necessary for the service network to be suitably prepared.

Kvaser supplied a substantial part of Scania’s next generation after market tools, called the VCI II, and has since become a valued partner, supplying tailor-made CAN interfaces and dataloggers to Scania’s repair shops and production lines.

Sauer-Danfoss, a designer and manufacturer of hydraulic and electronic systems for mobile applications, sought Kvaser’s help in developing its CG150 CAN interface, an element of Sauer-Danfoss’ PLUS+1™ machine control development and service system. PLUS+1™ comprises various service tool building blocks that enable clients of Sauer-Danfoss to customise the service and diagnostics tool. Sauer-Danfoss made use of an OEM version of Kvaser’s CANlib SDK and Leaf interfaces on this occasion.

Commenting on the development process, Sauer-Danfoss’ engineering manager said: “Due to the fact that all Kvaser hardware uses the same reliable Application Programming Interface, the work of integrating the Kvaser Leaf interfaces in Sauer-Danfoss has been very easy.” He concluded: “We have great confidence in the quality of Kvaser’s products, due to Kvaser's deep knowledge and long experience in the field of CAN.”
