Product EOL (End of Life) Policy
Â
Kvaser adheres to the following guidelines when it comes to the end of a product’s life cycle:
The product is flagged ‘Not for new designs’ in the product list. When this happens we inform customers who continue to buy the product that this is the case. It means that we continue to manufacture the product, but in parallel, also assess that particular product to determine whether we should design and make a substitute.
Later on in the process, when we receive ‘end of life’ notices for critical components, we flag the product "End of Life" (EOL) and again inform customers of this fact. At that time we also let customers know whether Kvaser can provide a substitute product, and if so, any differences in capabilities and expected time to market. Invariably, we still manufacture the original product for some time afterwards and hence the product remains on our product list.
When we get close to the point of no longer being able to manufacture the product because of a lack of critical components, we issue a ‘Last Buy’ notice to customers of that product, who then have an opportunity to make final purchases of the product in question. At this point, Kvaser secures necessary components for the final purchase order, including any unprocessed purchase orders and blanket orders. Kvaser will now remove the product from the product list.
We maintain a close relationship with our suppliers and normally have a 12 month EOL warning on components.
The above procedure outlines how we operate regarding typical component supplies and foreseen obstacles. When it comes to regulatory obstacles that are out of our control, and any other unforeseen challenges, then we adhere to this procedure if at all possible.
