Kvaser-sponsored Formula Student Electric team, Tongji Dian Racing from Tongji University, just launched their 2021 season electric race contender at the Shanghai Porsche Experience Center.

As with virtually all student teams participating in Formula Student, progress on building the latest car, the DRe20, was seriously delayed. While the Japanese Formula Student event in September this year was cancelled due to Covid, the Chinese FSAE events are expected to go ahead in November and December.

The Tongji Electric team are using NXP’s S32K144 MCU and NXP’s Model-Based Design Toolbox (MBDT) plug-in for Mathwork’s MATLAB to handle battery management, and ST Microelectronics’ STM32F767 for display controls, along with the TouchGFX and STM32 CubeMX developer kits for the dashboard GUI design. Tongji Electric’s own-designed vehicle control unit, based on the NXP MPC5744P, integrates core-board and power distribution.

The Kvaser Memorator Pro 2xHS v2 has been used throughout the process of developing the DRe20, logging live test data which is then analysed in MATLAB.
